What would RNLI think of such a strategy. Perhaps seeing a small boat gradually sink within sight of their station, however they've been instructed by the government not to intervene.

But, and I think this is something Motorbiking alluded to earlier in the conversation, with the RNLI using well meaning donors' funds to run a 24/7 taxi service for economic migrants - it risks them being unavailable when genuine, legit mariners get into trouble. The loss of such seafarers are the only ones I would mourn - not law breaking chancers and parasites out for what they can get.
