Jaguar Land-rover

Whatever happend to them gas conversion cars? Do people still have them? Never had one myself

Is that a comment on EVs in general or is it specific to the EV400 Jag?

Applies to quite a few electrics by the sound of it.

Documents say that the I-Pace batteries were made in Poland by LG Energy Solution, whose products are under investigation by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The agency opened the probe in April of 2022 after five automakers issued recalls due to possible EV and hybrid battery defects that could cause fires or stalling.

General Motors, Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, Stellantis and Volkswagen have issued recalls since February of 2020, most due to internal battery failures that can increase the risk of fires.

Did you take it various places to get a value, or just the BM dealer ?

And genuinely I thought it was newer 1, the way you were so proud of it.
Yes all virtually the same price was offered, BMW dealers just seemed to offer a better deal so I went with their car, it was on my shortlist so wasnt an impulse buy.

ms motorbiking was looking at a used X1 from various car supermarkets, ended up getting the best deal from a BMW dealer including a 1 year BMW warranty which she used.

The X1 I got I specced it fully loaded, Tech Pack 1 & 2, cruise control, M sport, Metalic paint, petrol plug in hybrid etc. I was told the X1 is completely bullet proof and the best BMW out of the X drive range. Is she happy with it?

It needed a new gearbox within a week, but I can't help thinking the dealer knew of the fault when he traded it in, gave a low trade in and then scammed BMW for the parts under her warranty.

It's really nice X-drive, S-line so well spec'd. drives well.

You're right. You do look good in it.
There are a few reasons why people buy SUVs and other huge vehicles – status symbol, to spend their pension pot, desire of safety for “loved ones” etc. Perhaps 1% have a legit need, like caravan towing or off-road use.

But whatever the reason, they’re a pain, too big for the roads and parking spaces. And increased safety for one is at the cost of reduced safety for others.

Judging by the numbers, my guess is about half the motoring public owns one or aspires to get one, and the other half hates them with a passion.

What surprises me is that nobody in authority points out how antisocial it is and tries to discourage it. You wouldn’t expect it from the likes of Clarkson, but apart from occasional comments from pundits, nothing..

If most people drove normal sized cars, which were fine 30-odd years back, there’d be savings in road improvements and maintenance, and reduction in CO2 emissions.

That’s my rant!
