Best paint for kitchen cupboards ?

Hello ! As above want to refresh my kitchen cupboard doors by re painting . Currently have some white paint on previous owner did a horrible job so will be sanding that off / down . Need some tried and tested suggestions for durable , wipe able and heat resistant paint for the doors ? Many thanks

This is a good paint, has good reviews, iv'e used it on internal doors and like the finish, it's washable and heat resistant.

I decorate for a living... I spent many year specialising in painting cabinets.

Water based paints will soften if splattered with oils, and that includes oils in your fingers if you regularly touch the paintwork.

Oil based paints will be more durable but will take longer to cure.

2K paints will give you the most durable finish but generally need to be sprayed. And they should not be sprayed in occupied buildings.

I guess you need to decide on a compromise that you are happy with.

I used to use Dulux Trade oil based eggshell when painting on site. I added Owatrol oil to it to help maintain a wet edge. I applied the paint with Anza pad pads (the ones with no foam backing, just short pile fibres). Unfortunately, they are extremely difficult to get hold of these days. I used to buy a box of 50. They used to be £2 each once upon a time, I threw the pad away at the end of each day. When they jumped to about a tenner each, I stored them in a BrushMate.

Personally, I am not a fan of rolled finishes but I understand why people use them. Most of the units I painted were shaker style MDF doors so I wanted the "grain" to run in the correct directions. If you decide on the roller option, go for the mohair type mini rollers. Do not use a foam roller, you will end up with loads of air bubbles which will pop and leave tiny craters.

The 2K paint contains isocyanides and should only be sprayed off site and the user should have a clean air supply respirator. I must admit that back in the day I used to spray doors with it outside and often had a cigarette in my mouth. Please do not do that. On the upside, it becomes touch dry really, really quickly. In the summer, I used to be able to spray a room door (outside during the summer) and then lift the door off the trestles after 30-40 minutes. After about 90 mins, I could place the recently sprayed side downwards on the trestle and spray the other side.
