Trumps Gaza peace deal?

An interesting choice of person...

Regarded as a terrorist by israel, and not sure how they'd take his contacts with certain other Palestinian groups including Hamas..

He may be known as the 'Palestinian Mandela', but then he would be dealing with bibi who certainly is no de Klerk!

The problem goes beyond Israel vs Palestine, there is also the problem of the West Bank vs Gaza and Barghouti could be a solution to that. Sure, he was a terrorist, but weren't they all ;). This may well be the last opportunity for a solution and some big brave moves need to be made on all sides.
I see the West Bank as being a bigger problem than Gaza for future peace, I can't see Israel making a full withdrawal from WB, but at the very least there has to be a partial withdrawal and 'land swaps'.
Israel and Palestine will both need to make some unpalatable decisions, unpalatable that is to the nutters on both sides.

I quite like Netanyahu but accept he's probably not the man for the job moving forward, Trump has him on a tight rein at the moment and I suspect Trump's patience is wearing thin.

A bit like Tony Blair claiming credit for the IRA ceasefire.
When the real reason for it was that the security forces had brought the IRA to its knees and McGuiness and Adams were on a hitlist.

Blair was in the right place at the right time, as he might well be now.

Wouldn't making martyrs out of McGuinness and Adams dragged it on forever?

How many of the Palestinian prisoners returned as part of the deal turn into future leaders of a new terrorist group?
Smotrich and his fascist friends will block every attempt to stop this carnage while Hamas live on.
peace 'deal' my eye.
I agree

Agreed that the West Bank is a major problem...

However there is a precedent for this type of situation...

When israel was formed, the Palestinians that they hadn't been able to drive out were offered the choice of staying but living under israeli rule...

So if it's good enough that way around, why not israelis living under Palestinian rule?

And who knows, it might even start to address the second class citizen status if both sides were in the same boat!

But an even bigger problem is what to do with the Palestinians who have been refugees for many decades, and who under international law have a right to return.

bibi should be fast forwarded to The Hague!

That of course won't happen, but at the least he should be forced to step down and face justice in israel itself!

There are currently something like 5 million with a 'right to return', less than 1 million left but it appears to be a hereditary concession, like the refugee status itself.
5 million returning to a country of 10 million (of which 2 million are Arabs) is an insurmountable problem. Even Yasser Arafat conceded this problem.
The other alternative is to pay compensation to those who lost homes/land.

It's a huge problem going forward and I really don't have an answer on how to solve it, I genuinely hope others do.

Trump had very little to do with it. Hamas have, virtually, been bombed into oblivion by isreal. The thousands of protesters in isreal, who have brought netanyahoo's government to the brink of collapse, and yes even little Greta had a hand in it. Whilst trump has done some negotiating, which I absolutely hate to admit but there you have it, it has been a massive combination of world events that have brought about a POSSIBLE ceasefire. of course all those trump *** lickers will shout from the rooftops that it was all because of trump whilst all the while trump brings america to it's knees. As for a Nobel Peace Prize I sincerely hope that that continues to be denied to him.
Trump has come along when the conflict has run out of steam to claim it was down to him

Netanyahu would never run out of steam, he's been strongarmed, and rightly so. Who by?,
The conflict has run out of steam.

There’s only so much killing a country can get away with before the citizens and the world lose patience.

I did and I apologise for that. I haven't heard any numbers on the Palestinian side but I assume the number released will be in the thousands. As I've mentioned before I'd like to see the release of Marwan Barghouti, potentially a unifying figure moving forward.
Respect, it's nice to see on here people that have the humility to own up and apologise, a good example to some of the waste of oxygen losers that exist on this forum.
