Where have they gone?

You seem to find it hard to research things.

Your Google search shows he is hard right on economic issues and was increasing hard right on social issues.

1) Rishi Sunak isn't a centrist technocrat – he's a proud Thatcherite. The new prime minister represents the same free-market world-view favoured by Liz Truss.

2) Portrayed as a Cameronite liberal, Sunak is in fact deeply conservative on everything from trans rights to refugees.

3) Sunak's hard right political agenda was rejected not just in Labour seats, but rightacross the country, with its affluent former southern

4) while others point to his immense wealth, privately educated background and adoption of hard right-wing policies.

5) I'm a small state conservative. I believe in prioritising, trying to restrain the growth of public spending, being careful with our borrowing

6) Since taking office, Sunak has aligned himself with the far-right wing of the Conservatives.
Politically moderate:
Despite his socially conservative and economically liberal policies, he has been described as a centrist because of his pragmatic and pragmatic leadership style.

I suppose you can read it how you like- I did and will do on going-

Tories were never going to put in anybody other than heavy right leaning.

Loads about it/him on the net.

Lurched further and further right from Boris onwards, until they ended up in a complete mess because nobody in any position of power was anywhere near the middle.

Til they sort themselves out and get away from the right they will stay in the wilderness, or reform into reform.

Because the Tories flogged 1.5m council houses, privatised everything then set to and fekked the economy + public services up for 14 years

Dats why

They built a few as well though, more than Labour at any rate.

Margaret Thatcher's government had built more council flats and houses in a single year than New Labour's managed in its entire period in office.

When they sold those houses they still had the residents living in them. Same number of homes in the country. Same number of people. You make it sound like the houses disappeared and the buyers needed new housing?
Not inaccurate but,

The problem was, and still is, they weren't replaced. A lot of those that were in the fortunate position of buying the houses cheap would have moved on naturally and vacated the house. It was a system that worked, albeit there was always a shortage of houses

We are paying the price for a lack of social housing now, by renting from private landlords etc

Was it not a scheme to enable people in rented houses to become home owners and free up some cash at the same time- Obviously some made a lot of money- but every scheme has its pros and cons

I feel there’s a little bit to much negative energy in here and some posters can’t have a real debate- they just get mad and hide—

Thank you for admitting you cherry picked to suit your bias.

hilarious you believe an ex Goldman Sachs analyst would be a centrist, it’s a career literally based on free market capitalism

Totally agree. More homes needed to have been built. The councils should have spent the proceeds on that. But this mantra about RTB being the cause of a lack of housing is Magic Grandad stuff.

I view people as I see them- Sunak is considered to be centre right- that’s right—

Yes, but they were not allowed to, and that's where a lot of our current problems are coming from.

Council or social (if you prefer) should be self financing. Rents might not be as high as a mortgage but paid over longer term more than pay for the cost of the houses including maintenance.

Selling them off cheap was wrong though, it was just a way of buying votes at the time ( and for a bit after too).

Gradual and progressive renewal of the stock is all that was/is needed. Sell off at market value with the occupier given 1st refusal and build/buy more with the money. Steady stream of houses being renewed over time.

If you deduct off the ones Thatcher flogged……

Thatcher the council house snatcher, forced councils to sell, made them give the money to central govt so she could give it away in tax cuts to bribe voters.

And she prevented them from building more.

Housing benefit is one of the biggest council costs.

It’s funny how every right wing person on here believes in home ownership over renting, but can’t see the colossal mistake by Fatcher
