I have recenly replaced my old extract fan in the downstairs toilet with a new fan as the old stopped working

I have a Black (BL) - Grey with a piece of brown tape (GB) - and brown (BR)

i have assumed BL=Neutral, GB (switch live), BR (live) but, that turned the fan on, when the lights went off.

so i currently have it wired as BL-N BR-SL GB-L

it comes on when the lights are on and off when the lights are off, no overrun

here are pictures of the current set up including the existing light switch, any advice on how yu think it should be connected. THere is no isolator but the lights have their own circuit on the distrubution board so can be aislated easily from there

You do have the wiring for an over run dont you want that? If not remove the perm live and isolate it and link the switch live and premium live terminals together.

Between grey and brown im not sure which is switched or permanent, try it both ways trial and error, unless you have a tester?

thanks, sorry what i meant was i can't seem to wire it so that the overrun works, it just goes off woth the lights and won't overrun

Try swapping the brown and grey over

Or first turn the timer up

Ok re-wired it so BL-N, GB-SL, BR-L
overrun set to 15 humidistate set to off

came on when the lights came on, waiting to see if it turns off after 15min
what do recomend i set the humidistate at?

yes it is an overrun fan with humidity sensor

it is set to 15min overrun

but, if i wire it up as suggested it comes on woth the lights but will not go off regardless of how the timer is set

I haven't fitted many humidity fans they are always a pain in my opinion, wait and see if it goes off

it went off after some time, set the humidity to 90% so must have been a hunidity setting issue, thanks

The humidity setting would not prevent the timer overrun.

I think it extremely unlikely the Brown is the SL.

so live and switched live were wrong, so the fan went on and off with the lights, no overrun as the swtiched live was in the constant live of the fan.

when is was wired correctly, the humidity sensor was set too low, so the fan stayed on to lower the humidity.
so when i set the humidity sendor to 90% instead of 10% the fam overrun worked and it went off after 20min
