I was replacing an old pendant light in my hallway. As I unscrewed the cap it all fell apart so I have no ideas where the wires go.

On the replacement pendant there are the following slots for connecting wires

1-2 3-4-5 6-7-8 [E]
Br-? L-L-L ?-?-Bl G/Y

Br = Brown wire going to pendant
? = Unknown
L = Live (the red wires I know that one)
Bl = Blue wire going to pendant

So fron the ceiling I have:

3x red wires
2x black wires
1x blue wire
1x green/yellow wire
1x yellow wire

I have connected each red wire to a connector on 3,4 and 5 slots

I think the blacks got to 6 and 7 and the blue to 2.

The green/yellow wire to earth.

So where does the yellow wire go?

Any help appreciated

Sorted it. So for all those who want to know the answer:

The instructions say:

1 = Brown supply to pendant
2 = should be black with red sleeving (I dont have any sleeving on it)
3 = red live to switch
4 = red live to feed out
5 = red live to feed in
6 = black to feed out
7 = black to feed in
8 = blue supply to pendant
EARTH = green/yellow

What I end up with

1, brown = supply to pendant
2, yellow wire (should be black with red sleeving to switch)
3, red live wire to switch
4, red live wire to feed out
5, red live wire from feed in
6, blue and black wire (black to feed out dont know tthe blue)
7, black wire from feed in
8, blue wire supply to pendant
E, = Green/Yellow earth

thanks everyone for the advice though.

Why do you think that?

How did you establish that yellow was the switched live? And did you mark it with red sleeving as you should have done?

6, blue and black wire (black to feed out dont know tthe blue)
Then how do you know that connecting it to neutral is the right thing to do?
