Yes, make sure you put the lives in the same way as the old one - input to input and output to output. Also make sure you isolate the power at your circuit breaker before doing anything

I think we already determined that the switch is on the input side - you said it kills the unit when off - so the only important thing is that you put the brown wire going into the input side on the old unit, to the live input side on the new unit (terminal 1).100%. Sometimes I've seen professional people not switch the electric off I'm not even risking that...
I will today try to work out which live goes to the switch.
Can this be done by disconnecting one of the live wires & seeing if the switch works or?

Left is input, right is output.Ok.Great
I'm just trying to work out which side is the actual input on the connector. So how can I figure that out?

That's fair enough, you may decide to call one for peace of mind anyway. Your existing installation is actually a bit naughty, you shouldn't be able to touch any of the coloured wires without removing a protective coverReally appreciate your help...
Im adhd so I overthink...
But I'm also trying to avoid calling electricians for something that I can learn myself.

Yes, you're only supposed to be able to touch the cable sheath, not the actual core insulation. The new one you're ordering hopefully comes with a box because the actual screw terminals would be exposed otherwise, which is much more dangerous.Yes, I'm assuming he was meant to hide it... even though the actual live wires are covered, I know what you mean because the actual wires are visible that's probably against the regulation?

Yes there will be a solution, best wait to see what turns up and take it from there. On the old one, none of the copper braids are exposed because they go under the connector which you screw down
But now the new one doesn't come with anything... I didn't think of that
Is there anything I can buy to cover it?
