Rachel Reeves budget

So because he interviews well he would be good at being chancellor?

I don’t think so, he has less experience than Reeves and look at how that is going
please avoid such basic strawman arguments

I did not state his only skill was being good at interviews

than Reeves and look at how that is going
Reeves problem is dealing with the Tory economy and destroyed public services that have built up over decades

It wouldnt matter who was in power or who was in charge, we would be in this situation.

the only thing you could slightly argue is employers NI has had a slight negative affect on growth, but tax had to come from somewhere............Im sure you can suggest a better alternative............

improving the economy is something that will take 2 govt terms at least, not a year and a bit

If all the rumours about her budget plans are true, I will have little choice other than to consider moving to Cyprus or similar.
why don tyou move to Dubai, zero taxes there innit

you could be mates with Tricky Dubai Dicky :ROFLMAO:

The headline is NI on contributions over £2k.

So a typical employer pensions scheme paying 5% for 5% gets to every single person working full time on about minimum wage.

So yes. Those starting out their careers are the hardest hit.

I invite people to do the maths.

Of course high paid people are already capped at 10k before they have to pay tax.

It is funny to see the lefties pretend otherwise.

How many women do you think would find that funny?
I will have a go at this -- its 6.9million

Taking into account the lower state pension age for women (60 compared to 65 for men), there are almost twice as many women pensioners than men in the UK: 6.9 million women and 3.9 million men3.

The one and only way out of this country's mess is to cut spending, massively. Which we have already proved this government is utterly incapable and unwilling to do, in even the smallest way.

She said yesterday that taxes probably will rise AND then also said they'll allow benefits claimants to get paid for an unlimited number of children. She really doesn't understand the fundamental issue that there's no money left. In fact there's a lot less than none, they definitely can't afford to increase spending on anything, however worthy they think it is in their misguided minds.

They're going to blow the country up very soon in a ball of economic wreckage. Hopefully the pieces left will still have enough value for a grown-up government to be able to salvage our future.

Labour will permanently cease to exist after this episode (hopefully).

You beat me to it. I was mid typing to ask if folk think this is all a ploy to then appear 'better' by announcing stuff that isn't quite as brutal. Or will it be just as bad as some are predicting?

Ironically, one of the reasons I didn't vote for them at the election was their refusal to tell the truth about the need for taxes to rise to pay to fix all the things which had been broken in the preceding 14 years.

The only other person to whinge at me about a "joke" was knave of hearts, so I'll repeat...

Lighten up

I'm not whinging.

If you're able, try thinking seriously about whether there should be anti-semitic jokes here, with Jew-hating tropes, with offensive terms like "k---".

So yes. Those starting out their careers are the hardest hit.

"For someone who earns £125,000 and saves £25,000 of this directly into their pension, Reeves’ plan could cost them an additional £460 a year and their employer £3,450 a year in extra NICs, according to accountancy firm RSM. Someone earning £45,000 and sacrificing 5 per cent of their salary would pay an additional £30 a year in NI and their employer would pay an extra £34, according to RSM. "

Wow!

"Hardest hit" my asre.

On the other hand, a person earning £35,000 a year and making 5% employee pension contributions would be unaffected.
