I think it perfectly reasonable that a disabled driver should own an older car, not a wreck but a four year old one that is perfectly adequate for their needs, there is no need for them to own a brand new 4X4 that someone working cannot afford themselves. The actual costs would be interesting to see.
If the person is contributingbetween £12k and 20K over the three years, given the discounts, etc, I wonder how much the subsidy actually is.
Stereotyping somewhat, a lot of older people don't do a huge mileage. It would probably be cheaper to buy a used vehicle, maybe 1 year old at 40k miles, then sell it at 4 years old.
If the scheme only provided approved used cars, it would cost a lot less, through missing the early depreciation.
Or, long-term leasing costs less than I thought.

But I wouldn'tBut you should
Its just a leasing system that is only available to people who receive PIP. It's a charity so not for profit which probably explains why they can include insurance and still be competitive with commercial leasing firms. The actual costs would be interesting to see.

Maybe, maybe not... And you'd probably be wrong

Nice oneIt depends if they find enough actual abusers of the system through that to make it worthwhile. If the resources were better spent on other abuse detection processes then yes, it should be scrapped.

Not jealous at all im happy for him we get on well, think what you likeI haven't said that though.
You are moving the goal posts.
The point is that, pip only gives an allowance (if a person qualifies) that can be used against a set number (similar types of car)
Anything different to that has to be paid for by the person. It isn't given away free.
It's not the type of car (a la your neighbour) that matters. It obviously wasn't free, which was where your jealousy was showing.
Take it up with Rachel, she agrees with me,Any other benefits you'd like to deny people who have enough money not to need them? Pension, maybe? NHS treatment?
Err.... that's how it works now.

No but I know one of my sons mates uses the mobility car his mom got for him *not for her for him*
I also used to work with a chap whose wife was disabled and he used the car as a taxi on the weekends (I know you wouldnt think it allowed but it happened)
Why are people so desperate to think people cant fake an illness or actual disabled people with no use for a car get the car for someone else?

He told my sonAnd you know for sure that she didn't get it so he could use it to provide transport for her? How?

Don't know the answer as I dont know everything like youWhat if she hadn't taken a car, and as a family they pooled all their income, including benefits, and used it to pay for food, fuel, clothing, housing, etc, and a car, which he used as a taxi at weekends, would that be OK?
Why are people so desperate to make out that the whole benefits system is riddled with fraudsters and scammers, despite proof it isn't?

Wake upWhy are people so desperate to make out that the whole benefits system is riddled with fraudsters and scammers, despite proof it isn't?
Im not im happy for them. Why are people so desperate to make out that disabled people are getting something for nothing?
Im not im happy for them. Why are people so desperate to treat disabled people as undeserving of any level of service provision, facilities, opportunities, etc, that able-bodied people get?
Im not im happy for them. Why are people so desperate to have a society where disabled people are forbidden to spend what money they do have as they want?

Not possible![]()
