I think that about sums it up.

One of them in the report, a Turkish barbers, was pristine in terms of the actual front shop. However, back shop was a tip with a few illegals sleeping in substandard conditions.

On holiday in Bulgaria a good few years back, there was a two day/night trip by boat to Istanbul. For the very same reason as you I thought it best not to go.

I sort of regret it a bit as it looks a fantastic city. However more so I think is the south coast close to Syria will be the place to avoid.
