I was on a team that has been tasked to take down the flags around my area, we work with a police protection and a private security firm. I left it as there was so much agro involved it wasn't worth it, plus I fully agree with the flags on the lamp posts and see no reason why they should be taken down. Although we still have the team they have actually taken down very few of them due to the protests and local feelings that are provoked whilst doing it. I love my job but I am not paid to face this abuse trying to do it and upsetting people when there is no need.

What is the councils ( or who ever you work for) stand on why they are needing to be removed from a lamppost. Apart from getting in the way of Christmas decorations.

At first they used the excuse that they was a danger, this was silly as there was no danger, we refused to take them down due to the public outcry when we did. They then agreed to leave them unless they interfered with the flow of traffic or the performance of the light itself. In their defence though, we do not allow anything to be hung on lamposts that is not supposed to be there including advertising stickers or notices other than planning permission notifications, street signage, EMP cameras, CCTV and xmas decs.

Sometimes they get a warning letter sent to them with the threat of legal action, I recall quite recently a lady had placed a number of posters on the lamposts around her neighbourhood with regards her cat missing, although we should have taken them down we left them for a number of weeks to give her the chance of finding her cat.

I don't see giving advice to anyone to take drugs is good advice. It is like me telling people to take steroids to increase muscle size. Very innapropriate and not in the least bit sensible.

You might want to tell that to the Reform head of the council, who posted a video recently stating that there was a need.

To put up the Christmas lights in the town.
So that the local businesses could enjoy better footfall and trade.

That is the issue. It opens it up for anyone to start putting things on lamposts, Lamposts are not meant for any other purpose than to be a functional item. Some ornemental posts are actually seen as preserving our history.
