My sister says she's looking at mondeos for her next family car. I haven't had a ford for a very long time. She says mondeos are one of the most reliable estate cars you can get (about 10 year old ones).
Anyone know?
Also I know the eco boost engines are notorious but there's others apparently econetic I think they're called. I've googled it, it just seemed to say oil changes are important.
Cheers.

They are reckoned to have the best engines in that sector, better than vw. But a car is only as good as its weak points.

We have a mk 4 petrol Mondeo on a 09 plate.
Common fault is the £700+ fuel pump and original stereo seems to pack up, but apart from that all good.
Don't know about diesel version

I had a 2010 diesel as a company car. Loved it. Had a couple of limp modes occurring but relatively easily and cheaply solved. I had a power shift model, great car.
There's warnings online about the auto ones. Maybe it's over played or maybe you were lucky.

£700 is a lot for an old car. Not too bad if it's the only thing.
Petrol pump is under the fuel tank. Was 6 years ago and failed 2 months after buying car unfortunately for us. I think sellers knew as I could see the wires in boot had moved. Plug burns out and I think wires were manually being pulled.
Stereo is a stranded failer at around 10 years old

Bought a Mk3 (06 plate) at 86k in 2010 & ran it for 9 years.

2.0L (petrol) Gia X auto. Can suffer with swirl flaps breaking off the rail & being digested by the engine, so we had the inlet manifold changed .. expensive job but gives peace of mind.
Internet posts suggest that the JATCO 'box is on borrowed time after 80k but ours was still trouble free when we sold the car at 170k.
36mpg on a long run, much of which at the legal limit, 28mpg commuting/local trips (summer-time figures)
Comfortable ride with acceptable performance/handling in everyday use.

Front passenger door can refuse to open from the outside in hot weather .. known fault.
Hopeless traction in snow/ice despite being driven by an experienced winter driver, maybe better with all season tyres?
Heated front 'screen a bonus, but any failure is always the driver's side.

Don't recall having any rust problems, despite always driveway parked.

mk5 2015+ ecoboost with the 1.5 engine, this has the wet belt for oil pump, better reliability than the 1.0 ecoboost engine. The mpg is better on the auto and manual from 2015 onwards.

Will have a cam belt to be replaced.

Ignore the 2.0l ones

I've heard a lot of bad reviews on wet belts.

Funnily I've heard a lot of good reviews on the 2.0l mondeos. Any reason you dont like them?

The wet belt setup on mondeo is not the same as the fiesta's, the oil pump is the only thig running it, it has a cambelt for engine.

2.0l fuel efficiency and emissions are not good for its class.

There's always the V6 power option if you want more grunt.
Don't know if that's still in production.
