So what? He needs to stop having these stupid ideas, not drawing ideas out of a hat to see how they go down. Perhaps he could think about it and, I don’t know, float it to some of his own party who could tell him whether it’s another crackpot idea that going to lose them voters. And their banking industry is now as robust as it was before...

I vaguely recall that many UK Councils invested their 'surplus' funds in Iceland but ultimately recovered 90p in the £1.
