PIR and Plasterboard over chased cables

Hi,

Hopefully easy one... we have some chases from cables in solid exterrnal 1930s wall and wondered if any issues with covering in PIR (probably glued) and overboarded with plasterboard (probably glued) Without chasing in the cables in with plaster...

If those cables will be more than 50mm depth from the finished wall surface, no problem.
Otherwise they will need to be moved.

you mean because its a dog leg it has to be 50mm+? or because it's not chased in? They are powering outdoor sensor light

Cables must be either more than 50mm below the surface, or they must be in the "safe zones" horizontally and vertically in line with the socket or in the corner. The issue is the horizontal part of your cable route. Will the cable be 50mm below the finished wall surface there?

There was never plan to put cables 50mm below a finished surface...electrician wasn't told that we would be adding 40mm. So by the sounds of it if they are not buried deeper to 50mm+ then the insulation is a different issue as the cables simply shouldn't have been out of line if less than 50mm deep...? If i understand correctly.... If so, not sure how 50mm of PIR and plasterboard would help things anyway?

In that case, it sounds as if your 'electrician' didn't know what he was doing - for reasons that have been explained.

However, I'm a bit confused, since in your previous message says that the cable was "not chased in", whereas your photo seems to show that it was - or is that an optical illusion?

sorry - i meant we hadn't planned to plaster in the chase....

Fair enough - but the 'electrician' presumably assumed that you would plaster it in - in which case he should have known better than to route the cable as he did.

Then likely he wasn't actually qualified, or was, and simply didn't care about the Regulations.

The problem is that a 'spark' is someone who declares himself/herself to be a 'spark' - which obviously is 'asking for trouble'.

As you know, I'm no 'spark', but I appear to know more about 'sparking' than this person did.
