Fujifilm Cameras

I’m not sure a 100-400 is a good choice. Is there not anything less zoomy. Maybe a 300mm prime ?

Generally speaking. The wider the range of the lens the more compromised the quality.

100-400 is a big ask for a lens retailing around a grand.
micro four thirds, a lot less materials and much smaller than other lenses. That was one of the reasons I went for it

That’s f4 so already better, but I’ve seen a few used ones for half that.

Wex and park cameras have a few.

You understand this is a telephoto lens not a zoom lens. It’s 300mm fixed.

EDIT - interesting , just got the flag other replies !!!!!!
anyway
just beaware = with that Aperture range you may need to lower the speed and not hand hold in some light - although the IS should be able to go lower then the normal - old fashioned rule of thumb 1/focal-lenght
guide
if you can get a aperture that stays the same across the zoom range like maybe an F4 or a faster lens - that maybe a really good buy

so been a while now - how you getting on with the camera and you were buying bits for it- so what have you got now
Because of the weather being as it is I have been learning all of the features and reading about composition. I bought a few books as suggested and have also bought a book on the actual camera. So can you believe the only photos I have actually taken is all from within in my house!!!!!!
