Hi. We are doing up a bedroom and wondered what to do with ceiling.

There are quite a few cracks in the wallpaper, some examples in the attached pictures.
I assume the cracks will also be there when we strip the wallpaper as likely to be cracks in plasterboard?? If so, can we just fill the cracks with something and then re wallpaper?
Also, my brother in law said if we use a steam paper stripper then because it’s an old ceiling that’s not been touched in years, then we could cause issues with the plasterboard and it might start disintegrating? I’m far from a diy expert, so just after some advise.

Thanks very much.

I would assume they're cracks in the slabs

I'd be looking at leaving the wallpaper in situ unless there's a good reason to remove

Tell the missus to remove half the stuff in the loft and bin it. (y)

Our ceiling is exactly the same.

Thanks for the replies. The ceiling wall paper is in a bad way, so didn’t really want to leave it but then again I don’t want stripping the paper to create a problem with the plaster board. Is papering over the top an idea, or will the issues show through too?
