i only asked about if it will be trench or mole. There was no mention of the drains and i should have realised and asked. It only dawned on me yesterday if they can go ahead with it or not because of the drains.
There is no way anyone online can really know which it will be. Ultimately the contractor will have to decide when they come on site. That being said, given there are 2 chambers right in line in the drive and without local knowledge of how the services - water - leccy - drainage may actually be run and that coupled with where the gas supply may actually be coming from, the safest path may, as suggested, to trench it.
Moling is essentially blind and if there's any concern that there may be a service(s) in the way then then it can cause a fair amount of damage if it hits something critical.
If the condition of the re-instatement is a worry then it needs to be quite clearly specified in black and white and agreed what quality of finish is expected before the work starts.

Surely they have equipment to scan the ground to see if its safe to mole or not.

So if you took the drains out of the equation how would they know whats under there do they have access to maps?
Possibly, but plans often change, once on site, so cannot be relied up. Have you tried at least lifting those manhole covers, to see which way the pipes run? Were it me, I would guess the safest way to trench, would be up the LH side of that drive, then cut across to where the meter cupboard is located, then up the outside of the wall.
there are maps for electric and water but they are not always very accurate . There is a device for locating electric and cable tv and it can be used to find metal water pipes .
I have seen simple mole job go wrong and ended up costing several million quid in repairs and compensation
CAT (Cable Avoiding Tool) and Genny can be sued to locate cables and other buried services, drains can usually be traced by lifting covers and noting depth and direction, but Mole's are not infallible, and have been known to veer off course, and smash through other services, usually sewers....
One very expensive mistake was made a few years ago, in Corby, Northants, when a Contractor installing a new water main, had a Mole go off course. It smashed through a live water main, closely followed by a gas main, and by the time the water had been shut off, it had filled a large section of the Town's Gas pipes with water.
People in the lower parts of the town reported water coming out of their Gas Fires, Cookers and Boilers. The entire gas network was offline for weeks whilst the water was removed, the pipes dried out and purged, before every house had to be visited individually to restore the Gas supply.

29 years ago now at least a hundred thousand gallons went into the gas network and took at least 6 months to get it fully out average compensation of 200 quid paid with some of the affected getting 400 quid.
Overtime bill was horrendous as they brought hundreds of personnel to it from throughout the country
As suggested, yes they do but as has been exampled, no contractor with any sense will want to take the chance to mole blind if there is any risk of services being near or in line. It could end up costing them and their insurers plenty.
The fact that there are 2 chambers directly in the path from the street (where the mains will be) to the cabinet would suggest they may take the safer option and that would be to dig.
How much is it in england just to bring the gas to side of house?
at least a thousand quid if the main is running up the pavement in front of your garden . dearer if road crossings or really long garden

Thats alot to pay.
Two or 3 skilled men equipment labour an materials soon adds up and no its not just about digging holes
