Interesting story behind this song, anyone know?

I'd never heard of this so looked it up... it was an unknown record for many years, having been released in the 1970s and getting nowhere. In 2014 a record collector rediscovered and promoted it, making it an underground hit and bringing some success for the brothers. A film was made of the story.

Rolling Stones 'Brown Sugar'. This is not allowed to be played on the radio any more, despite it being one of the biggest hits of the early 70s. It was everywhere at the time but now history has been erased thanks to the do-gooders.

Even the Stones have dropped it from their set list.

Pure magic from 1971...

The story of Donnie and Joe Emmerson. Their old man financed building a studio on their farm by selling off a few acres of farmland here and there, he sold off more to produce an album which didn't get anywhere. Eventually their dad had sold more than half the but there was still no success for the boys.
As you say, a producer found an old LP in a second had shop and tracked them down, the album was re released and it made a few thousand dollars. It was such a great story that they made a film of it with some well known actors, I think from memory the film grossed something like 7000 dollars,
Last I heard they were still going and occasionally headlining at local festivals in Oregon.

For me, the amazing thing is they were two young teenagers, in a remote backwater, who wrote and produced an album of reasonable quality but were just s**t out of luck.

Great story.

Although the tune is good, Jagger himself said he wouldnt write it today and is a nasty song, I have never liked it because of the lyrics.
