Brother works for trading standards. Pie kees take up a major part of his case load. Always the same MO - shoddy drives, roofing, tree prunuiing, etc for eye-watering sums of money. Usually targetting oldest, most vulnerable members of society. He know a lot of the ones who are at it and quite often he manages to get refunds of thousands for victims. Prosecutes the worst offenders, not uncommon for them to do time.

However, not all substandard work is done by members of the travelling community. Next door house to me is a rental. Two cowboys turned up today (probably hired by agents) to 're-roof' the flat felted porch roof. Left the old knackered leaking felt roof where it is, sheet of ply over the top of it and new felt over that. Add some ropey looking flashing and all done in just over an hour. Looks horrendous.
