Whistling windows - can't find source

just randomly slap say 5 bits off 50x100mm off masking tape in areas you think the noise is coming from until you find the source but not too many at once as you will have to remove them one at a time till the noise returns

if you think its say the rubber seal on a window then you can simply cover the whole length off the rubber as its airflow and vibration you need to interrupt and covering the rubber will both stop vibration and alter the airflow 'if the airflow still passes the taped area and noise still persists when you cover it the noise will change

I reckon that rainwater down-pipe could act like an organ pipe when wind blows across the lower end..

The sound is a high pitched squeak, rather than a lower drone like I would expect if it was that pipe, but it's worth a shot, thanks! I'll try partially capping the bottom of the pipe to see if that does anything.

I did already try using duct tape to seal around the windows. The noise persisted, and I've also heard the noise from outside, so I'm not sure this will help. I will try it again, though, in case I didn't seal things very well last time.

Just thinking as I was typing the above - when I've heard the noise outside, it sounds like it's coming from the top of the window frame/where fascia above, and I've had the right hand side window open. I wonder if, maybe, the noise was coming from the left hand side window and I was hearing the sound travelling along the frame or in a cavity?

I feel like I'm coming up with wild theories at this point!

As I said in post 2 it's very likely the silicone that ha been pushed in the gaps between the frame and trims, it needs pulling out not just sealing over, hopefully once you get started the silicone might peel off like string, try peeling or at least removing some from where you think the noise is coming from and try the door trick again, but you must open and close it fast

Is it your wife whistling? Does she sleep on the window sill?
