Hello, I have a problem with my double upvc the right hand side door was left swung open one day and I’m not to sure if the kids had moved the handle up or pulled it down as the door was open but I noticed a pin/bar sticking at the bottom of the door which I’m assuming had dropped from the inside somewhere, and the only way I could close the door was if I pushed the pin/bar back in as I quickly closed the door. Now I can’t open my door as it seems to be jammed at the bottom but it opens at the top. The locks work fine and everything but the door just won’t open. Can somebody give me some advice on how to open the door please? Thank you.

Was the pin under the leading edge of the door ( eg lock side not hinge side)? If so very possible that its a shoot bolt extension and its dropped off the main lock ( or been forced into the wrong position).
Youll need to remove the centre mullion cover to access the lock , providing the master door is opening fine then its fairly straight forward but if you arent DIy minded then may be to get someone in who knows what they are doing

I can’t open either side of my doors, the main side (right side) is the one that’s jammed, it sounds like what you’re describing. Which cover is it I’m taking off the middle centre piece that runs from top to bottom inbetween both doors? Thanks.

If its the main door then you wont need to remove any plastic... what you will need to do is remove the glass on the main door, put the glass on some pieces of wood for safety. Then pull the handle down , push the top of the door out and lever up the bottom of the door, that should give enough flexibility for the door /shoot bolt to lift out of the hole its in . It may take two of you, one to keep the top of the door wedged out whilst the other levers up the door. Then unscrew the bottom of the door lock ( you may need to twist a metal cover round to be able.to prise the.lock free) . Unscrew the bottom shootbolt, usually two screws on the faceplate and sometimes two under the door sash. Remove the shootbolt, screw the main lock plate back on , and you have a temporary repair. Then you need to locate the replacement shootbolt . Hopefully there will be a name stamped on the main lock plate that will give you a starting place. Just make sure you get the same length and same configuration, as some you 'pull ' to engage the bolt , some you 'push '
