What thing was ruined because it turned into a rich person's hobby?

There is always a bigger more expensive one, but the reverse is also true.

Does that fee include Council Tax?

The cost of ownership, Insurance, Mooring Fee`s, Water tolls, Repairs, Diesel & Electric have all risen by large amounts I`m afraid.

Go to smaller gigs. You can sometimes catch bands that go on to be arena fillers, or just see a great band for a fraction of the price of an arena gig. And you actually get to see them up close, and not a dot on the horizon.

Classic cars, or in my own case, classic bikes.

Thankfully, the bottom has fallen out of the market and “investors” don’t buy classic vehicles like they used to.
I just like doing up old bikes.
A few years ago, fairly ordinary 50 year old bikes were bought and sold like paintings and never ridden.
It’s slowly getting back to reasonable pricing.

Bands wise, I have a copy of a led zep ticket from Earl’s Court for £2.50.
I am an ex theatre/ band tech and would far prefer to see a small band in a small venue than stadium/arenas.
Reading festival was about £12 a weekend.

I am a short arse and joke that I could stand in my garden, watching the TV that’s 50 feet away while my neighbour sells me a warm can and half cooked burger for £15. Then my mate could **** on my leg. That’s modern gigs.

My insurance came down last year. There are a lot of bad brokers who run down the clock to maximise commission. If you shop around 3 months before, you will get a much better deal. Also a couple of solar panels avoids the need for electric in the summer.

When I was first thinking about a boat, I was quite shocked when I obtained my first insurance quote, I think from memory at the Earls Court Boat show, might have been Southampton.
Do you have any experience?, 'not really'
Do you have any qualifications, 'not to speak of but I'm going to do the day shipper'.

90 quid including x million public liability. I think in the 15 years we had boats it never went over £200-250, value of our boats was normally £20k or just under.

1% of value is normally their starting position, so that is about right. Racing adds a bit, but I pay per race which keeps the cost down as I only do 4 or 5 per year. The biggest cost nowadays is 24/7 walk on marinas ~£1k per year/m (Solent), but if you don't mind a small inconvenience, you can get a river mooring and just call a taxi to get you to your boat. Some of those have peppercorn rent.

My policy requires minimum Coastal skipper, but that is because we go off-shore a fair bit. My other half always jokes: I can al always tell who the Yacht Masters are, ..they'll tell you

What makes me laugh about stuff like this is it could be stopped in a heart beat. All it would take is for all artistes to say to their agents 'we'll have no part in this guff' and it would stop. I know that some artistes have taken a stand including A listers, however not enough of them. So you have to conclude they are either complicit (i.e. happy to earn more £££/$$$) or they are thick (i.e. don't have a clue what's going on).

Owning a boat takes deep pockets nowadays.
Nah. I've just bought one. £1400 brand new (discounted)...

Took it out to sea yesterday for the first time with a couple of others. Absolutely amazing, climbing up waves then slapping down the other side while heading out, then surfing on them coming back in. All after a couple of years of proper club training, having started from scratch.

If the masses spoke (with their pockets) much of this could be stopped.

e.g. if a football club releases a new shirt at a cost of £90 and very few buy it, that sends a message. However that's not what happens, so the financial mugging continues. Fools and their money ...

Can you do that thing where you flip upside down in the water and then right yourself?

And just had the second happiest moment of my boating life
1st is when you buy it 2nd when you sell, I was lucky and sold for 3k more than I paid
