Space stuff...

In reality, it's both.
Correct. There is a lot of wishful thinking going on here.

Folk have just made a big deal about flying around the Moon. It has taken much planning, great effort, lots of set-backs and all the tech available we have today - to do a moon fly-past.

We are centuries away from putting a man on Mars.

within 20 years for sure. (y). experts agree

You said that we already have the tech.

So, I'm interested in your "business case" reasoning.

CEO to MBK:

So, you want $4 billion, for one launch, to put a human back on the moon?

Well, not "on" the moon exactly..........

Didn't take you long to row back.
Space travel has all but stalled, if not gone backwards in terms of where we ought to be in distance from the Earth, type space travel. Yes, we can recycle water - on Earth. Yes we can load a spacecraft with enough provisions for a long journey - theoretically. Yes we can can load a spacecraft with enough fuel for a long journey - theoretically.

These hurdles will take several decades to refine, if they ever do. These are not necessarily scientific issues but real, life-ending obstacles that are not going to be swatted away with tech. We simply don't have the means to transport life huge distances from the Earth.

We can barely put together a Moon fly-past.

And the ultimate limit :

a fragile bag of flesh that, even with the best of luck, might get 100 years of useful time....
