My partner has a dripping mixer tap. Pretty sure it's the cold that's dripping. Would this just be a case of replacing the cartridge? I've no idea of the make/model of the tap, so is there any way of telling the type/length of cartridge required without opening it up first? Or is it going to be a case of take out the cartridge and head to the local plumb spares place with it? Thanks.

Removal is required, and take to a plumbers merchant to match ,there are many versions.
Also, replace both hot and cold valves.

Take the cartridge out and get the number off it.
Problem is if you take it out it might fall apart.
Order a new carriage from https://www.tapmagician.co.uk.

If there is no number you can match it's up.
Information on website.

I've never found one local as so many different variations. Well the DIY stores and trade counters have a poor choice

Is them falling apart a common problem? I've got a couple of decent plumb part suppliers nearby. Are you suggesting that I'm going to struggle getting a match locally then? I'm not sure I'll be able to convince my other half to live without a kitchen tap for days whilst waiting for a replacement.

It's ceramic and they crack.
Falls apart.
Just means you can't put it back in and use it until the new one arrives.
Not a problem

On website it explains how you measure and count the splines.
You can also send a picture by email and they will match.
When you get a new one note the number.
It's easy enough

Thanks a lot for the help and info. I'll explain to the other half the issues. There will be a dripping tap in a months time no doubt.
