The important part is depending on the way that the joists/rafters run.
If the timbers supporting the plasterboard run in the same direction as the light fitting, you might be able to fish the wire through?
Depends on if there are no cross timbers
If the timbers run at 90° to the direction of the light, you are going to need to be able to drill an Cessna hole through the timber.
unless you are accomplished or an electrician then lifting floorboards etc can be a little daunting for ordinary unaccustomed folks - on a few occaisions problematic for those used to it too. but yes it is a sensible consideration too.

I was contemplating describing to @cawright1 how to straighten out a wire coat hanger and use that to try and fish the cable but I haven't got yhe energy to sink into telling someone what is a simple task that most people (of my generation) know from the time they are 5 years old.
Hopefully the OP has done the job now. Not heard any updates, clarification, etc
It may look better if you stand the strip a few mm off the ceiling (use a nut, or something) and that will give you a space to hide the cable in.
Trunking will look kack, IMO

If it's only one joist you have to pass through you can drill at an angle through the ceiling and joist but it is fiddly so wouldn't suggest multiple joists.
Don't forget to drill where the light fitting will cover it.
Just cut holes / slots as many as needbe behind the light, once put back you wont see them , if theres a joist simply chip out the plasterboard and slot cable below in the 15mm gap dont drill and weaken joist unneccessary.
If the existing cables going that way do the first slot near the end and simply pull the cable back
Push a pencil up the existing hole to get a depth of the void your working with
