I'm planning to get my bathroom walls skimming before tiling them (to get the walls even).

Someone told me you don't tile on plaster anymore. Is this true? It sounds wrong.

Assuming that you are using a cement based adhesive, at a minimum, apply SBR to reduce the risk of ettringite crystals forming when the cement interacts with the plaster.

Tiling over plaster is OK though. For what it is worth, naked plasterboard has a greater weight load than plaster over plasterboard.

A skim isn’t going to make walls significantly more even .

I'm not sure of the best way to proceed.
The walls are not even from top to bottom but it sounds like a skim would weaken the walls.

Am I better off sheeting the full walls with plasterboard?
