I don't think anyone has ever seen the receipts for the specs and suits. It was just a lump of money, the supposed purposes were just excuses. I doubt any tax was paid on this income either.

Starmer registered the gifts with the appropriate people and in the allotted time frame.
There was nothing dodgy about it. It was just seen as hypocritical to cut allowances or benefits while wearing high end free clothes.
Despite many politicians and PMs before them doing exactly the same.
He paid the required tax on those donations.
