A dilemma

Just rang my mate up to call in a favour. He is a professional dog handler / trainer. I told him I am getting an ex racing greyhound and it will need training. After he stopped laughing at me he said this. Super dogs but you cannot train them but don’t worry the greyhound will train you. He said basic house training is as much as you will achieve. OMG.

Known a few ex-racers kept as pets.
The same situation came up with all of them
(a) you will never get near the fire again, as there will always be a greyhound in front of it.
(b) Walkies - not unusual to see the person saying "come on, you know you can go further than this." Generally within 5 paces of the front door. Generally resulting in going back home again. Especially if hot, or cold, or wet, or windy. Greyhounds do not seem to be enthusiastic about leaving the fireside/couch/bed.
(c) Walkies. If letting off lead outside - MUZZLE.
The sloppiest, softest, laziest ex-racer switches back to full race mode if they see something small running. I have - sadly - seen a small dog torn almost to pieces by ex-racer off lead in a park.
They are beautiful dogs, and every ex-race owner I have known never regretted getting one.

Thanks for this. Some great tips in there.
