He's certainly posted his callsign before now, which is as good as an address!
they do, but isn't the 5% VAT specific to domestic fuel, anyway?
Not the slightest idea what this refers too?

No? The original question was:
... but what (all) that has been announced is that the 5% VAT on domestic electricity (but seemingly not gas) will be reduced to zero in October. No mention about a change in any other VAT rate.
As you pointed out, the question is pretty irrelevant, since businesses will reclaim the VAT, anyway, but what (all) has been announced surely does "answer the question", doesn't it?
So why are you arguing with me? Take it up with Murdochcat, if you're that excited about it.

This is my thoughts. Gas and oil is a one way traffic, no one has a digester or what ever they are called, and pumps gas back into the grid, the same applies with oil.
However, we do pump electric back into the grid, and the government want to encourage us to store electric so we, well at least I, buy more than I need overnight, and then sell it back during the day, so I buy it at 8.625p and sell it at 12p, it was not so far back 6.5p and 15p, there are losses with the inverter, so now not really gaining, but easier to just let the inverter do its own thing, to trying to forecast how much solar I will get. The removal of VAT will mean the incentive is restored, and people are more inclined to get batteries.
It may help people who don't have batteries as well, but it is more to retain the incentive to buy batteries. I started with 3.2 kWh which ran out too quick, I increased to 6.4 kWh and I could go up to 12.8 kWh with my system, but I do not really run out of battery enough to warrant the expense, when we are only looking at a 12-year life for the batteries.
If the peak price for electric raises, or the off-peak falls, then it may be to my advantage to get an extra battery. We are seeing EV users get massive batteries, mainly as the off-peak time is so short, they could when not using them to charge the EV, pump power back into the grid, but the VAT on import and no reimbursement when exporting means people are less inclined to import extra to then export it again latter.
