Recommendation for a wired house alarm panel.

At present, I have an alarm panel just inside my front door that has been in use for around 30 years and I would like to replace it.
It has an entry/exit zone and another three instantaneous zones, all connected via multicore to a number of PIRs around the house. The outside sounder box/strobe light is also connected the same way.
Wherever I look, all I see are wireless systems which I want to avoid as replacing with a new wired alarm panel would be the least disruptive and easiest option. Can anyone recommend a good quality replacement and supplier of such, I'll be doing the changeover myself. Thanks.

I've attached photos of the front and internal of the unit. You will see that I'm only using two zones, one for the entry/exit and the other for the whole house.
The bell bell outside doesn't have a battery inside. It simply has a six core cable, two cores for the sounder, two for the strobe and two for the tamper microswitch. I see that the ones on offer have connections for a battery unit so I'm hoping I can connect it without modifying the inside of the bell box.
I've had a quick look at what's on the market and found three:-
Texecom Veritas 8 CFA-0001
Challenger 10 Zone AP10-1LED
Eaton PAN-10W-KP
They have well more zones than I need but I don't mind that so long as it's reliable and I can connect the bell box without having to get ladders out to modify its insides.

Hmm,

if your not using ladders how do you know it doesn't have a battery inside?

The tamper from the bell box doesn't appear to be wired to the panel in any case.

You can certainly rewire it to a new panel not sure how good things will be,
door contact and one zone for the whole house, if multiple PIRs then there will be a join somewhere.

Bellbox tamper isn't wired to the panel.

Texecom veritas would be your best bet ….avoid the compact version …

looking at photo and trying to work out all that is going on, it looks like two earth wires, one with no sleeve looped round several times, that's from the mains feed, and one that is sleeved.


I see several cables in the alarm box that I can not account for do you know what all the cables are?

Looks like the extra low voltage cables are earthed ( someone fitted an ACT earth choke ? ) maybe

I installed it 30 years ago. The reason I am looking to change it is that I expect it to fail in the next few years, I'm not getting any younger and would like to change it while I can. I also noticed a smell a few weeks ago and the area above the power supply was quite hot. I should have addressed it immediately but put it off. When I checked it a few days ago, the battery level was very low, hence the smell from the tranny. It's cooler now that I've replaced the battery, but the smell is still present albeit less than it was. I take that as a warning.
I know there's no battery in the bell box as I installed it. You are correct about there being no tamper in the bell box. I am mistaken, it was 30 years since I was last up there.
I used cable that I "borrowed" from work. It had shielding so I earthed one end just because it was there.

Possibly and where the white tape is is where they have been joined.

B could be for the bell? but cant follow the cables to be certain of that.

Could be for latching pirs ….reset button like old shocks ….light stays on until reset , bet battery resistor is burnt out under keypad

The sounder is supplied by the white and black cores. The strobe by the green and yellow.
The switch underneath was added by me and is in series with the sounder to get round a few operational problems I have had. I use it when taking the front cover off for replacing the battery and the like so as not to upset the neighbours. It also comes in handy when I have a false alarm at 3am and struggle to silence the sounder.
There is no battery in the photo as I was in the process of replacing it.
Anyway, back to the original question, can anyone recommend a decent replacement.

If you just want a basic alarm then stick a veritas in. If you want something a bit fancier with an app then pyronix euro 76
