RCD adaptor won't reset...

Evening all

I fitted a floodlight on the rear wall of our bungalow a few months ago, and took the supply from a socket I put in the loft which was wired using the cable from a redundant shower.

Our electrics blew the other day due to a faulty steam iron, and I reset the switches with no further problems then put the iron in the bin.

I've just been up in the loft and found that the single socket RCD safety adaptor that I bought ( see pic below) for the floodlight into had tripped when the power went off: no surprise there. Thing is it won't reset, though if I plug the floodlight directly into the socket without the RCD adaptor it works fine. I tried the adaptor in another socket downstairs and it still won't reset, so presumably its gone for good.

Surely its unusual for these things to stop working after just one operation?

Can you show a photo of the reverse with the instructions?
 
I had a RCBO do the same, turned it off to see the use on that circuit, and it refused to turn back on. Renewed and all worked OK.

As to why you have a RCD plug powered from a RCD I don't know? Was it a 10 mA one?

I suppose I thought it would provide a lower safety margin because its on a 32amp circuit.
 
I suppose that the bottom line is this: I have a 20w floodlight, powered from a socket which is on an RCD-protected 32a circuit. Do I need any further protection for that circuit or can I dispose of the plug in RCD adaptor?

It will make no difference, it measures the difference as I am doing here

note the clamp is around both cables, the idea is it is measuring what is going else where.

The problem is to test them, you can't really use a stop watch, so we need a special tester RCD tester ramp.jpg which can show the speed, and the current at which it trips, here mine is tripping at 21 mA more than the background current.

The fuse will stop it drawing too much.
