Heating controls help

Hi there I have heating controls for my baxi duo tec boiler, the controller is a Salus RT501rf

Recently the boiler seems to be coming on of its own accord, not due to the RT501RF which seems to be working fine [it turns the boiler on if manual set a temperate above the current temperature showing on the RT501rf, and turns it off when i reduce on the rt501rf)

not sure what the button on the top of the controller does or if it should be on the left (solid black circle) or right [empty circle) - see photo.

I dont have any manual for these heating controls

Can any of you experts help?

Left is manually always on, the right is auto and controlled by the programmer.
