Wishbone Ash 'Jailbait'. These were a superb live group, featuring twin lead guitars long before Thin Lizzy did. Formed in Devon by Martin Turner (bass) and Steve Upton (drums), they went up to London and recruited guitarists Andy Powell and Ted Turner. Ted is the singer on this one. He left at the height of the group's fame, having met a mystical foreign woman who cast some sort of Yoko-like spell on him. They are still going, sort of- they are one of those groups who fell out and fought over who has the rights to the group name, and so now there are two versions of the group in existence: 'Wishbone Ash' (led by Andy Powell) and 'Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash'...

I saw them at Slough Community Centre in 1972? 73? can't remember exactly when. We went to see them because we knew the name, the alternative that night was some bloke called David Bowie who was on at Slough College and none of us had heard of him so we opted for Wishbone Ash.

Trevor Bolder, another Hull rocker, would have been in Bowie's group at that time. He later joined Wishbone Ash.
 
Etta James 'I'd Rather Go Blind'. A major figure in the blues world, most other female pop singers cite her as an influence. Some of her singing is sweet, but I don't like the 'blood-curdling scream' type sections of some of her songs. This is one of her finer moments...

I quite like the Rod Stewart version.
 
Don’t get her huge popularity considering her songs are fairly bland, but fair play to her, she’s very successful and has a massive work ethic with all that touring
