Reform lead the polls

How did it work out for May? And she waited a year and then said she called it to increase her majority, that's not the same as calling a general election when you've replaced the old PM as you demand.
You asked who had done it. Not if it was a good idea for them. I think it should be mandatory within 6-9 months.

We vote for MP, party, leadership as a package. Burnham was mayor when that mandate was given.

If Burnham called a GE today he’d be forming a coalition at best. It is why it needs to be a statutory obligation.

Jason Cowley, the magazine's former editor, has described the New Statesman as a publication "of the left, for the left",

Got anything that isn’t behind a paywall or that isn’t completely biased
A meme is a meme, a paywall is irrelevant to p*ss taking.

Of all the electoral reform to propose that's bottom of my list.

He shared an opinion but said little, as I’d expect.

Nobody is suggesting warship are used to hunt small boats. Last time Borderforce used personal water craft and the Greek navy use patrol boats and fast ribs.
Not sure if it was in this thread or another that I mentioned it, however if Reform get into power and if they introduce a much more stringent policy re small boats that involve the Navy, I wouldn't be surprised if the Navy refuse to carry out whatever actions are assigned to them if it endangers life. And although he's to remain neutral, what would the King (whether Charles or William) think about their Navy being used in such a manner.

I think it's easy for Reform (and Restore) to say they're going to fix all sorts of things with tougher some might say harsher policies. I think they'd find actually implementing their policies would be a much more difficult thing to achieve.

Which is all well and good but they can't return the boats to France, that would be breaching Frances sovereignty.

They can't push them back or prevent them landing because that will inevitably end up killing someone given long enough, and it's probably illegal.

They'd need support vessels nearby to rescue the passengers in case the boat flounders under their control. Which means a significant vessel as support to the Ribs.

You know boating, you know all the ways this could go wrong.

Also I've talked to RN people involved in some of the Mediterranean reduce work last decade. Everyone hated it, from crew to the admiralty.

Might as well carry on using border force. They’ll all end up here in the UK in any case.

Dead refugees, Made in the Royal Navy.

I don't think HMS Archer wants to be able to paint teddy bears on the superstructure when a child inevitably dies.

Its not like the pAtrol boats we have aren't needed elsewhere.

Remind me what happened when we last withdrew our military vessels from the Falklands? Oh yes, Argentina took it as a sign we weren't seriously invested and invaded them.

Andy Burnham has admitted that these migrants were all being stuffed into poor areas.

So you are allowing yourself to be blackmailed by criminals.
Also "refugees" -- righto.
This is the real world. Are you saying that you'd want the Navy to sit and watch people drown, even actively pushing them off their boats and preventing the RNLI from rescuing them.

Just because you ignore reality doesn't mean it won't happen. And if you're making a plan for this you have to consider what will happen if someone doesn't mindlessly follow your script.

Don’t the Greeks break rules like they break plates?
