Reform lead the polls

Currently they are assisted, escorted and picked up at the border. The arguments against making the crossing harder are the risk to the lives of people crossing, particularly children and babies.

The boats are getting bigger and more dangerous almost as if the assistance is accounted for by the smuggling gangs. Very few children are coming across as we know, it’s mostly men.

The current approach isn’t working, the numbers are back to the last full year of conservative government and the budget has gone through the roof.

The destination and crossing method has to be made unattractive. There would be plenty of scenarios where a patrol vessel could safely intercept a boat and turn it back.

That the current approach isn't working doesn't mean that any other random approach would work better. Many, including the Reform version, would make things worse.

Its also possible that we have the best possible approach in place already. After all fifty different PMs gave tried to address this over the last decade and none have had any better ideas. Some things cannot be 'fixed'.

This is the real world. Are you saying that you'd want the Navy to sit and watch people drown, even actively pushing them off their boats and preventing the RNLI from rescuing them.

Just because you ignore reality doesn't mean it won't happen. And if you're making a plan for this you have to consider what will happen if someone doesn't mindlessly follow your script.
You always have to take it to the most made up extremes dont you.
Farages plan is to use the navy to RESCUE them all in french waters (because the french aren’t doing it ) and then take them back to france where they came from.
My plan would be to just wait for them on the shore here - pick them up and straight to a secure detention centre with tents until they can prove or we can ascertain that they are not a threat to our citizens and then we can process their claim that they are gay.
Once this word gets back to the villages that they wont be given brand new houses then the boat problem will disappear.

Why do you think this is a random approach? It seems to have worked in countries that have tried it.

At the moment the boats are getting bigger and the costs are rising.

Has it worked? Because I don't think there are any other good examples of this working, especially when the only other nation involved has explicitly said they won't cooperate.

Which is violating their (the French) sovereignty and is technically renditioning people on suspicion that they're going to commit a civil offense in a different country to the one they're in.

It's the plan of an idiot. If we wanted to do this we could just second a load of boats to the French Gendarmes and let them operate under their control, or more efficiently just fund the French to do it, which we already do.

Your plan is actually more or less how we process people, just with a hint of extra vindictive cruelty.

And no, being mean, aka the hostile environment, was tried and failed to make any difference.

If so - I dont care.
You on the otherhand seem happy to wait until they murder a uk citizen to find out if they are a murderer or not. Or a rapist.

A lefty's view is "there is nothing we can do", therefore lets welcome these savages and hope that they don't turn on us as their numbers outweigh our own military in numbers.
A right wing approach is to take the bull by the horns and deal with the problem. If there are obstacles in the way then knock them down.

Greece, Hungary, Denmark, Poland, Japan, Australia and now Ireland have all adopted "hostile" policies with success.

They've adopted a huge range of vastly different policies and some have been massive failures. Australias policy was running to more than a million dollars per refugee last I heard.

In addition I doubt any of those are even close to the Reform car crash plan. I know the Australian one is nothing like it.

Again, doing something different doesn't mean we have to use this particularly thick Reform plan.

I think it needs tweaking, like their last plan. it is entirely possible to:
1) stop the pickup and handover
2) adopt a policy of early rescues going back to France
3) turn boats back at the border
