A major event occurred the other night when Ritchie Blackmore joined Deep Purple for a reunion, playing their GHASTLY song 'Smoke On The Water'. I never liked that bloody song and its stupid riff, but millions do...

I really don't like seeing these groups getting back together again, it looks ridiculous and cheapens the legend of them in my opinion. A bunch of geriatric's dressed like they did 40 years ago isn't a good look. I always think they have run out of money and are desperate. Much prefer to remember them as they were rather than how they are now. I am surprised none of them were pizzin themselves on stage.

Great riff but lyric free

So, 20 years ago I came down to Cornwall for couple of weeks to help my brother in law who had a plumbing and heating business, just 2 jobs. His blokes were decent guys but they were trying to do do bathrooms without the plastering, tiling and chippying skills, that's where I came in.
As that 2 weeks drew to a close I suddenly had 3 months work lined up if I wanted it, I decided to run with it and asked mrs filly to flog the house and join me. She came up every weekend while I was working and house hunting.
Living at my sisters for a few months, I tended to go to bed early (9 -10) to give them some space.
I'd put my headphones on and listen to my device (not an ipod then, I went for something else). Apart from buying downloads from Itunes, I'd download from them free Russian sites.
The pattern was I'd wake up at 2 or 3 in the morning with Led Zep 2 blaring away. The thing with the Russian download sites was that apart from the downloads requested, other spurious downloads would appear from nowhere.

So, one night I wake up with a jolt listening to 'do the hustle' by Van McCoy and thinking wtf did that come from???.

Anyway, the next day I'm driving around in the van and I couldn't stop singing or humming it, it was mental, I didn't even like it.

It's been on my playlist ever since. I don't like it, I just need to hear it now and again, it's like a comfort blanket.

Enjoyed Filly's post, it made me think about Led Zep - I was obsessed with them at one time! 'Immigrant Song' is a favourite of mine. All about the time, over a thousand years ago, when Britain was invaded by people in boats, and we gave them loads of money to keep them coming. You just can't imagine a country being that stupid can you?

Could have been around the same time for me.
I was working for Eric Brown from Bodmin.
Lived in Fowey and Lostwithiel.

Gossips and Guttsey burgers on many weekends. The Fowey regatta week of beer.

I did go down to Cornwall just before emigrating to Australia. Just to satisfy myself that Cornwall wasn't whst I wanted.

I had the connections. With hindsight I got that wrong.
