Think they were called clinker blocks used a lot in the old days for non structural partition walls, i flushed a box in living room and nearly went through to the hallway, you can likely just fix through the back with yellow rawlplugs if carefull.or safer to use side fixingsAre you sure? Highly unlikely, if not impossible, to be plastered blockwork at that thickness.

Every way .
Try giving a solution instead of picking on other people's suggestions. So given the practical reality of a very thin wall you think that fixing through the sides of a back box into the most substantial available part of the wall is a clumsy, insecure solution.
OK.
Meanwhile, in the real world....
Fixings thru the side will only be 10-12mm deep, very insecure in loose blockwork.Constant use will loosen the sockets on both sides. So given the practical reality of a very thin wall you think that fixing through the sides of a back box into the most substantial available part of the wall is a clumsy, insecure solution.

The survey said 7 cm block work and i quickly measured myself. Think it was quite common in houses from that periodAre you sure? Highly unlikely, if not impossible, to be plastered blockwork at that thickness.

40mm, or so, plastered blocks? I've never come across anything like that or seen it mentioned anywhere to be honest. The survey said 7 cm block work and i quickly measured myself. Think it was quite common in houses from that period
It says partition walls on first floor in region of 70 mm made of concrete blockwork and plaster. I'll know for certain in a weeks time40mm, or so, plastered blocks? I've never come across anything like that or seen it mentioned anywhere to be honest.
I am beginning to think a few surface mounted boxes in bedrooms may not be such a terrible idea and then have flush mounted sockets on thicker walls. It's a design compromise but could be sinsible. If I had to choose between a mortared-in box, or one held by glue and filler, or one relying on screws into notoriously difficult and frangible breeze, I'd go for mortar.
