After an extension (involved fitting 2 new rads), hot water from the taps spurt violently for 1-2 mins. Also (in bath) can run dry but re-start after turning off for 1-2 mins. CH is fine, although it was suggested water temp be increased. 9 yr old house, combi boiler.

Is all the not water fed directly from the combi (i.e. no hot water cylinder) and is the combi fed directly from the mains (i.e. no feed tank)?

ahem, apologies wrong information first time round. . . . Not a combi boiler.

Grateful for your thoughts,

DIA, I was thinking of a dodgy connection for the new hot water pipe in the roof space from the existing open vent. ;)

No taps in extension, affected taps elsewhere around house. Thanks for the pointers, V helpful (were concerned about quality of plumbing when job was done, leak during build led to wall having to be re-plastered, so your suggestions fit with my concerns).

Thanks again.

Hold a jar of water under the vent pipe to the storage tank, then get someone to open the affected taps, if the water sucks out you have found the problem

Check for blockage in the pipe from the tank to the cylinder. A restriction here will cause air to suck in at the vent as doitall says.
First time I had come across it there was an iron fitting which shouldnt have been there and had rusted up. An unopened gate valve can also be a cause as can some debris on the tank outlet.
