I have added some of this to my CH system and it says on the bottle for well sludged up systems you can leave it in for three weeks.

Does anyone know what the conseqences of leaving it in for longer would be if any?

I now have to change the mid position valve so will have to drain the system to do this but i can't afford to do this until the end of Janurary

I have some Sentinel inhibitor to put in the system but i don't want to do this now if i am going to have to drain in a few more weeks.

My X400 has been in the system for three weeks today.

Should i just leave the X400 in there until the end of Jan. or drain today and just top the system back up with untreated water until i am ready to change the valve?

Many thanks in advance,

Nick

Err on the side of caution ........ The untreated water idea sounds premium ....... Or you may be saving till 2010 in the cold if things go bosseyed

Get a magnaclean while yer shopping ...... Theys brill them ;)

Now that was a quick reply :D

I shall now do a search on here to find out what a magnaclean does or is

X400 needs to be left in for a minimum of four weeks and is better left for five but should be drained and flushed clean by six weeks.

Only if its well clean should you add the inhibitor as further cleaning may be required if the system is still dirty or circulation faults have not been resolved.

Thankyou all for your replys.

The Magnaclean thingy looks like a buy for the future, my mid position valve is a more pressing priority at the moment though.

I did drain and flush my system today and have not put any inhibitor in, i shall save that until i change my valve in Jan.

Magnacleans should be installed on all systems when doing upgrade works! I finished a boiler change last night. Some of the rads were cold at the bottom. Used sentinel 800 to get things moving and the magnaclean caught at least 500grams of black stuff in just a couple of hours. All rads are now toasty at the bottom.

The man paying the bill was well impressed and knows how to clean it himself every few months.

a litre of inhibitor will cost you about £15 is that a problem?

all the time you leave your system without inhibitor, it will be corroding.

Believe it or not but due to personal circumstances at this particular moment in time, £15 is quite a bit of money, especially at this time of year. At the end of Jan, when i plan to buy and change my mid position valve things should be a little rosier.

Can that much corrosion happen in six-ish weeks?

one month can turn into two, two can turn into three...

Oh for pitys sake ............ Your heating will be fine with just water .......

make sure its well flushed out when you get to inhibitor time & jobs a good un'

I have just been to two sisters with a very old Ideal Sprint in fairly poor condition.

For the last four years I have been trying to persuade the previous owner and now the two sisters that they need a new boiler. I keep on making very temporary repairs for them.

Now the EXV is leaking in two places through the side. Yet again I have to make another temporary repair, this time to seal off the EXV and set up a rad as an EXV.

Like Abssm they keep on saying they have no money and cannot afford a new boiler!

They are leaving tomorrow morning to spend Christmas in Egypt !

Well that explains why they have no money left to squander on needless fripperies like a new boiler.

And who are you to take a pop at me like that? You have no idea of my circumstances and i'll not give you the sob story on here.

I started this thread looking for advice. If one of you had definately said put the inhibitor in right now then i would have.

If you can't be constructive then why post at all?
