Worcester boilers

Dear all,
We are having problems with our existing boiler (SIME Friendly E) diverter valve gone and relays/solenoids need replacing.

Our boiler struggles and no longer gives us hot water unless the heating is on.

The plumber has suggested that we replace the bolier with a Worcester boiler and tells me that these are the best available.

Firstly are Worcester boliers good ones?

Secondly am i likely to achieve a significant performance improvement with this new bolier (in terms of water pressure, flow rate and temperature)?

Finally does a parts and labour quote of approx £2000 sound about right?

Aboiler can only deliver good flow and pressure if you incoming mains has it , no mater what boiler you fit it can only supply what is coming in , ie if you are on a shared main it will be bad or your local area might not have very good water pressure even if you are on your own supply.

I believe your boiler is a wall mounted one and the pipe work is all there, if you replace it, it will be a direct replacement with slight modification to the existing pipe work. I am not a GORGI registered but have been involved in property development and management and I believe it will take a day to replace the boiler.

Only last week on of my friend replace his boiler from a back one that was hidden inside the chimney in the dining room to Worcester 30CDI which has been installed in the kitchen. The replacement involved a quite bit of pipe work and it took the guy two days to complete. The charges were £2000 Inclusive. I think in your case, £2000.00 is the top end.

Thank you for that - very useful. I'll see what the exact quote comes back in at and go from there.

I've got British Gas coming in as well to give me a second opinion but i'm expecting them to be expensive.

If you have a dirty old set of rads, they can take a day to get clean. Then it depends - there's no such thing as a straightforward boiler change!
Gas pipe, condensate... etc

Just, (Last week), had gas CH fitted to my place - did lots of research into what boilers are best - it came down to a Valliant or a Worcester.

Worcester won out because I got a really good deal from a plumbing supplies in Swindon for a 28 Junior and the fitter told me it was a Ferrari of boilers and is what he has fitted in his place.

Think you will find BG more expensive and they will recommed one of their heaps - not a good deal.

by that ya mean the Worcester greensatr is a heap? n id say valliant are better

I had a replacement done by them 3 years ago at my old place, cost me 2K, it certainly wasn't a Greenstar, and had 5 call outs on their 5 star cover, 4th fitter admitted the boiler was junk!

Thought Valiant and Worcester were pretty equal, just couldn't get a deal to equal the Worcester

The divertor valve on this model is reasonably priced and easy to fit!!

It was not a Greenstar, but think it was a ***warm? or similar. Certainly not Worcester.

Greenstar i range is a cheapy, just for us tighta*ses in the UK. Seem to have judged us right from the OP's view.

CDi are the quality range sold in Germany.

Worcester back up is the best in the biz though......

Ok had BG man aroudn last night and he said a couple of interesting things:

Firstly the cost of the job would be 3 ot 3.5k which is 30-40% more that local plumber has quoted ouch.

Secondly he did say that the 120bthu Worcester that plumber is reccomending is over spec for the mains pressure and he'd reccomend an 85-100 bthu bolier.

Thirdly he said that we did not have ME bonding and that i needed to make sure my plumber was going to quote me for that as well.

If my local plumber comes back around 2k as suggested then i have no option but to go with him i guess.

Does anyone know what model he's proposing if its the bthu version???

Have a look at the Worcester boiler site, it gives specs for all the boilers available. 85 - 100,000 btu covers several.
