Hi,All,

I have an issue with my central heating in that when I try and turn the heating on at the thermostat on the wall it does not kick in. I can only get the heating on in the house if I press a few buttons on my Vaillant Ecomax boiler and only then does it work for about 10 mins and then the heating goes off, if i want more heat i have to repeat the process.

Anybody and ideas as to what the issue is? any remedies?

Rgds, Ev

When it won't kick in, press the 'i' button and see what 'S' code is being displayed.

OK thanks, I will give it a go in a bit and report back, I've just done it manually again before coming up to the PC.

OK, pressed I and it indicates 5.30 press I again and it indicates 61 Deg Celcius (the deg celcius being indicated as the little 0)

Could it be that the settings on the wall don't match to what it should be on the boiler so that the thermostat on the wall kicks in, maybe need to reduce the 61 deg to the kick in temp on the wall.

Will give that a go.

I await your response to.

Rgds, Ev

Well the 61deg was obviously due to the temp at the time as now that the boiler isn't heating the temp is coming down, pressing buttons and not getting anywhere, wish I had a manual of inst. for this boiler....Help!

S30 is no heating demand from external controls. You need to test for 240V at terminal 4 on the pcb, it probably will be dead, then trace back and test room stat etc.

Thanks, I kind of understand but need you to explain a bit more in laimans terms, what is PCB and test room stat?

Basically you need to see why the 240v is not present at the boiler. It will be a control outside the boiler that is causing the fault.

As this is working with live mains and you say you don't really understand things, I would strongly recommend getting a RGI in, before you blow the boiler or something

OK cool, a gut at work is a bit of a plumber and he says it sounds like something in the circuit board on the boiler, advised me of something to do which even I can do and if the test works then it could be the circuit board.

Told the Mrs about the circuit board business and she said "pants, that'll have to be a new boiler if the circuit board is screwed", this correct? as it still works in a way.

Ta for your help and advise so far.

Obviously the ' bit of a plumber' knows more than me  as you seem to have ignored what I said.

Good luck.

gas4you is spot on.
the problem is s30 = no call from external control (the room stat)
if you remove the connections between 4+5 on the p.c.b. and bridge them together, boiler will work a treat.
then check the room stat :

I hope I haven't offended you in anyway, that wasn't my intention if I have, I just hadn't had time to test your advise which I considered as invaluable and more than likely correct, before I went and mentioned it to my mate at work and what he said more than backed up the advise you gave me. I was no way going to ignore your advise I was going to test it the first opportunity I got which probably won't be till Sunday.

Thank-you too to bobw1956 for the words of wisdom a fellow resident of South Wales, which part? I'm in Risca.

Think you'll find it's 3 & 4
