What is this switch?

Hmm, Volex board - so no expense spared here....

Don't you just love the cable access into the top of the CU. Not IP4X methinks..

when the electricity board come out to change the meter and say they won't change it, should i get them to earth it out so it would/might work or should i leave it as it is and just use it to isolate the cu if i ever needed to

Read the above posts again.

1) You have a TN-S supply, so you don't need it to work.

2) Even if connected properly, and still in "working order" it may well not work properly anyway, that's why they are no longer allowed in situations where they are needed.

3) Provided you can live with the 60A rating, why not keep it as an isolator, or alternatively while the guy is there replacing the meter, quickly whip in a higher rated DP switch while he has the fuse out?

i wanted to check that if it was working properly it wouldn't cause any damage if things went wrong, as a previous poster stated that his dad was almost killed by one and i was worried why

what do you mean by dp switch? could you give me a link of what to buy? i take it it would be best to get a 100A one but can't seem to find one that doesn't need to be fitted in the cu

Any reputable 100A+ double pole switch of the type used as main switches in CUs. You mount it in a small (2-module will do) DIN rail enclosure.

One of the old lags here has a photo of the one he put in his house.

 Or something like this if you want to impress the neighbours
