I'm currently in the process of wiring up 2 wall lights.I have done it in an unconventional way.ie I have PLUGGED the lights in to a wall socket and buried the rest of the 3 core wire into the wall to where it conects to a DIMMER switch and from the dimmer I have run 2 seperate 3 core wires to 2 wall lights. The lights work when I plug them in but I cannot control them from the dimmer. On the dimmer itself I have joined all 3 blue(neutral) wires together(not wired up to the dimmer itself).I have connected the earth wires to the switch terminal and the brown to L1 or L2.
what am i doing wrong???

the connections you need are C /common and l1
not the way to install lighting circuit but
put a 3amp fuse in the plug top
