Wickes solid oak flooring

Wickes are selling some nice oak floor at the mo, 120 x18, for £25.89 sq m.
Apparently they need clips underneath to hold them together (how do you get them under) and they're about 15 quid a box.
Disregarding any guarantee that would be voided.. could these boards be laid on a dry concrete floor any other way?
Apart from the clips...What's the best way please?

presumably the clips, since they are made for the job, perhaps if one box "fell down and burst open" you could see how the clips work

What about a Wood-Engineered Basic Oak Rustic, brushed & oiled natural? (4mm solid Oak top layer - total thickness 15mm with standard T&G construction).
