Question on pipe dead legs

Hello,

We'd like to get rid of a toilet and I was wondering if we can just cap the end of the pipe that supplies the WC cistern or do we have to cut back the pipe back to the T junction? This would be very problematic.
The length of pipe as it is measures now is about 1.2m

You can really do anything you like as long as the inside is properly blocked in an airtight manner.

I often use drain test bungs as they adjust for c.i. pipes and fit any diameter and can always be removed at any time in the future.

thanks. it's a 15mm water feed i need to cap. Do you have a pic of the "tool" you mentioned?
o you think this can be done by a DIYer? I would not want the water to gush out of the pipe whilst i am at work.....

Just use a cap for 15mm pipe - your choice between soldered, compression (usually the most appropriate) and pushfit. A dead leg that short won't cause any trubble.

i'd rather have it soldered on so i'll get a pro in.
I'll get him to cut the pipe back as well so that the dead leg will only be 20cm long.

I am sorry, I read too quickly and thought that you were talking about the soil pipe. Capping the 15 mm supply is such a simple DIY task that I did not think anyone would be asking about it.

A compression cap is easy to fit and only needs a hacksaw to cut the pipe and two spanners to tighten up the cap.

Any professional plumber would probably have to charge about £45 even though its a simple job PROVIDING your water can be turned off!!!

There's two problems with soldering a cap on an existing installation.

1, getting the water out.

2, unless you can get air into the pipe as soon as you heat the fitting the cap will blow off.

the soil pipe needs taking out as well.
It branches off the main soil pipe from upstairs so I'll need to patch the hole in the vertical soil pipe once the redundant horizontal soil pipe is taken out. So I'll need a cap of some sort for this. A friend told me just to use cement topatch the vertical soil pipe but this does not sound right to me....

For the water feed could I attach a cap fitting where the old flexi used to join the feed? (The flexi I mean is the one connecting the WC cistern).

It does look easy but I've seen pipe bursts on new pipes installed by pro plumbers so if a plumber can get it wrong what hope do I have as DIYer?

Just buy a 15mm compression blank for the water supply if its connected to a compression tee you can get a blank nut. As for the soil drainage centre sell blanks that will fit this.
