New patio time - plate compactor - how much depth?

Thanks Dan. That is handy to know. We did contemplate using a manual ramming pole. It would be cheaper than hiring a plate vibrator, allow us to do the patio and paths at our pace/ leisure, but probably wouldn't do as good a job as a heavy plate.

New patio time - plate compactor - how much depth?

Hi folks. We're after a bit of advice on how when using a plate compactor, how much it does compress aggregate? Info: We are laying a new patio at the side of sleeper raised beds, and are currently digging down ready to install a sub-base of about 3 inch. We will be using a mortar bed of 2...

    CH pump remains on

Yes the boiler does turn off. It'll be the 2nd PCB, Not sure how long they last in general but they are not cheap. Would be ok i guess if we didn't notice it running all night in the background when its very quiet. Does the PCB need programming via a laptop to set the parameters?

    CH pump remains on

Hi. Wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction please, even though we know roughly what the problem is. We have a Baxi Solo 3 PFL poiler, controlled by a Danfoss CP 715. In normal use after the boiler goes off (timer stops on the 715) you can hear the CH pump working for 5...

ways of locking a sliding door?

We have a sliding door between the kitchen and hallway, which we are replacing with a better looking door. I do have another question however, with regards to the way of keeping the door shut. At present we have a "bolt" that is attached to the door frame (not where opening is) and this is...

replacing sliding door with a glass paned sliding door

I'll hopefully be picking one up in the next week or so. I do have another question however, with regards to the way of keeping the door shut. At present we have a "bolt" that is attached to the door frame (not where opening is) and this is moved into the actual door at the top left (door...

    Tiles above or behind splashback?

We're definitely putting on the little splashback. We are in two minds as to put tiles above this, it may now look too much, and we could just have plastered/painted walls to make it look cleaner.

    Tiles above or behind splashback?

Hi. We're fitting a new kitchen and we're going to fit 70mm x 3000mm splashbacks (the same colour as the worktop). Can anyone advise, should we put the splashback onto the wall first, then the tile above this, or the other way around, put the tile on first and then put he splashback on top...

replacing sliding door with a glass paned sliding door

Thanks chaps. If we replace it, it will be similar in appearance to either one of these... http://www.wickes.co.uk/Interior-Hardwood-Doors/Camberley-6-Light-Door/invt/205886 This one may be better for us...

    Worktop lighting (under wall units)

Can anyone advise on ways to run wiring for worktop (under wall unit) lights? We're gonna install a new kitchen soon and have 20w (12v) worktop lights than come with a small transformer (2 lights per tranny). I guess i could either plug these into a normal socket which i think would look...

replacing sliding door with a glass paned sliding door

Hi folks, We currently have a normal door (not solid wood) separating the kitchen and hall and would like to replace this with something to let in more light into the kitchen (when door is closed) and looks more stylish than this 1980's thing we have now. As we are putting a new kitchen in...

    routed cables underneath windowsill!

Yes it does seem there are lots of cowboys around who can't be bothered with doing a decent job, they've got no pride in their work. The current wall light in the loo is already taken off the immersion heater cable! Thats what i'm going to renew to to a proper light circuit like you say. I do...

immersion heater mandatory with new combi-boiler?

Sorry guys, i may have mis-informed you earlier! The boiler is a Baxi Solo 3 which was installed by british gas, nothing wrong with the plumbing at all, i'm just tidying up some cables in the house (as we recently moved in) and the chap who was in before had a wheelchair and he had the...

immersion heater mandatory with new combi-boiler?

Does anyone know if its a legal requirement to have the immersion heater in the hot water tank wired up when you still use the tank with a new combi boiler? I have to remove some wiring as its non compliant which will mean the immersion heater switch not being supplied, which is no problem as...

    routed cables underneath windowsill!

    >>>Have you got solid floor everywhere else? >>> yes in the kitchen but not in the hall, they've put in real oak flooring and i doubt it'll come up very easily. I'm not sure the immersion heater is on its own circuit, unless it started off like that and then they put in 2 sockets also in the...
