Tiles above or behind splashback?

Hi.
We're fitting a new kitchen and we're going to fit 70mm x 3000mm splashbacks (the same colour as the worktop).

Can anyone advise, should we put the splashback onto the wall first, then the tile above this, or the other way around, put the tile on first and then put he splashback on top of the tile?

Personally i think put the splashback on first and then tile on top of this.

We're definitely putting on the little splashback.

We are in two minds as to put tiles above this, it may now look too much, and we could just have plastered/painted walls to make it look cleaner.

why even consider tiles if they look dirty?
