Lighting wiring won’t fit in ceiling/pendant. Too bulky, alternatives?

Hi Pete, unfortunately there is no hollow space in my ceiling. There is zero wiggle room which makes this all the more difficult.

Lighting wiring won’t fit in ceiling/pendant. Too bulky, alternatives?

Too long didn’t read: Individual terminal blocks and cables are too bulky to fit inside pendant housing. Ceiling wiring is too tight and tricky to fit into pendant’s built-in terminal. Hello, I’m trying to replace two pendants in the kitchen, which have two separate light switches. I’m...

Don’t recognise this gas connector behind oven?

Hello all, I couldn’t find this anywhere in the forum. I’ve just moved house and there’s an empty space in the kitchen where a range cooker would go. The house has a boiler too. I’ve not seen a gas line fixture that looks like this before, had the previous resident had it cut and sealed off or...

Strange lighting wiring colours? Replacing fluorescent fixture

I think the photo doesn’t represent the colours very well, the pink goes into the terminal, it’s just more of a hot pink and looks almost red on the photo. The peach cable looks pink in the photo. The blue and brown cables are part of the fixture it seems.

Strange lighting wiring colours? Replacing fluorescent fixture

I see. On a closer inspection it seems like the pink cable is from the house wiring, and is a live cable. Not sure why they used that colour though, I guess so it doesn’t clash with the fluorescent cabling colour scheme.

Strange lighting wiring colours? Replacing fluorescent fixture

Hello all, I’ve had a look over the sticky regarding lighting wiring and I think it doesn’t answer my question. I’m trying to replace the long fluorescent fixture in the kitchen with an ordinary light fixture (bar/spotlight). The problem is that there’s some bizarre colours (peach, orange and...

Hotpoint Oven cutting electrics to entire house

Definitely something with the cooker. Can't open the plug up unfortunately. Cable and plug seem fine otherwise, opened up the terminal block and that all looks perfect. Think the rest is over my head, too troublesome without calling an electrician and it won't be worth it, may as well buy a...

Hotpoint Oven cutting electrics to entire house

Is there any way for an amateur to isolate/narrow down which component in the cooker itself is causing problems? Or perhaps buying a plug and cable and just rewiring the thing myself? Thinking it may just be worth replacing the darn thing altogether. I'm thinking this might literally be the...

Hotpoint Oven cutting electrics to entire house

I've tried different appliances on it just now, all seem to work fine, then tried the cooker and everything tripped again as soon as I turned the socket on. Also have to make a correction to my original post, it isn't the entire house going out at one time, some things stay on, some go out...

Hotpoint Oven cutting electrics to entire house

It is indeed (a), it is a gas cooker. The house cuts out as soon as the oven is plugged in and is turned on. This is with every feature on the cooker being off, I don't have to be using the ignition or anything, it simply cuts out as soon as it is turned on at the plug. Regarding a photo of the...

Hotpoint Oven cutting electrics to entire house

Hello all, I have a Hotpoint HAG60 Hob/Oven that is roughly from 2016, not sure exactly when but it has generally been looked after quite well. The only issue is that when turning it on at the plug, the electrics in the entire house cut out and I have to turn everything back on at the breaker...

Removing fluorescent fixture & extending wiring?

That's a great bit of news, thanks. Any idea what that junction box is for? Could I get rid of it and feed the cables via trunking straight into the new pendant?

Desktop PC required to run Blender.

The problem is that prices for graphics cards have risen to ludicrous levels in the last year or two and are practically unobtainable nowadays as they're all bought up by bitcoin miners, and you really want a graphics card if you're going to be handling 3D animation and such. This has put a lot...

Removing fluorescent fixture & extending wiring?

Hello all, I have a very unsightly fluorescent fixture I'd like to get rid of and replace with a more pleasant modern pendant. The only problem is that I'd like the pendant to be in the middle of the ceiling (green X on the photo), which would be about halfway into the tube on the first...
