    earthing in bathrooms

Just to add to the mix, CPC may be used as supplementary bonding conductors. This is especially the case when all power and lighting points in a bathroom must be bonded together. 'The bonding connection may be to the earth terminal of a switch or or accessory supplying equipment'. By using...

Fire Rated Spots - Definitive answer anyone?

The home owner has just emailed me a copy of the report, which states - 4. Use of recessed light fittings in sloping or horizontal ceilings below roof voids (loft and kitchen roofs) is not accepted unless either: - a. Fittings are of a type which have been tested and allow insulation to...

Fire Rated Spots - Definitive answer anyone?

Cheers for the advice lads. Think i'll meet with the BCO at the house, and will indeed take a sample of fittings with me to show that no single fitting meets all of the criteria he's looking for. Will keep you updated.

Fire Rated Spots - Definitive answer anyone?

I'm in agreement Davy, thats what i'll be doing. Just seems ridiculous to have such poor clarity on an issue like this. Ultimately, even though I know that the inspector is wrong, it makes my company look like a fool to the customer, and is added expense.

Fire Rated Spots - Definitive answer anyone?

I am a fully qualified electrician and have had my own company for a number of years. No problems previously, but I've just come across a tyrant of a building control officer, who is refusing to issue a certificate of completion for a kitchen extension that I have wired. This is on the basis...

Impossible to find - Wylex HB60

Cheers for the advice guys, looks exactly like the memshield, good work RF. Would prefer to install a separate switch fuse as you recommend Taylor, but v limited for space. This is a good result, haven't seen the HB range before and neither have most, so cheers again. Ant

Impossible to find - Wylex HB60

Having to add a sub-main to an existing metal clad Wylex board, which currently holds Wylex HB type MCB's. The board is in great condition, and so replacing the board is not really an option if this MCB can be sourced. Needs to be a HB60, does anyone know a direct replacement, or if...

    Dropped my tester, aarrrahh?!

Sat my metrel installtest on a worktop whilst on site today, and knocked it off with my knee as I walked past, causing it to clatter the new concrete floor. The glass screen covering the LCD display has smashed, and the LCD disply also appears damaged. This is going to be costly I know, but...

CU change for assessment + questions + pics

Norv, Is this a new assessment or an annual review? From your questions, I suspect it might be your first assessment? As i understand it (and i might be wrong) your assessor will be wanting to check not only the quality of your work, but also the correct certification. Because you're not yet...

    Old Drayton Tempus 7

My mate has asked me to have a look at his central heating, since its recently had a mind of its own, sometimes firing up, sometimes not. A plumber who has had a look at the boiler reckons its the old cream/brown drayton tempus seven programmer, probably about 20 years old. I had a look at...

    Working to regs in ROI?

I've been asked to start a project in Southern Ireland, 5 domestic new builds. Sounds like a holiday from the grind in Manchester. I'm a fully qualified spark in the uk, and work to BS7671. What regs need to be adhered to in the ROI, any building control notification required as per Part P...

Working in Republic of Ireland? Part P?

I am an experienced electrician, and have been approached to start a project in Southern Ireland. Sounds like a nice few weeks away from manchester which is always good, but, now for the daft question. As an act of parliament, Part P covers England and Wales. Does anyone know of any relevant...
